Woolies, totems and talismans
What is a woolie? Woolies are created by needle felting; a process that takes bulk wool and very sharp needles to sculpt a shape. Whatever can be done in clay can be done in wool. An armature is created then just as in clay we build the form. Wool comes from many different animals and is used by many cultures as clothing and protection against cold. They are made of bulk wool that has not been spun into yarn yet. It has been washed, colored and carded to produce long workable fiber.
Woolies are works of art; they have a life of their own. My collections are based on the natural world since wool is a natural organic item. The wool is sourced from many places that humanely take care of the animals. Sheep must be clipped for health and wellbeing. There are many species resulting in different textures from soft to firm. I also use silk as highlights. Dyes are also used for color, they are done when the wool is washed and prepped, they are in accord with the wool process.
Woolies have a way of making people smile, they are whimsical and no two are the same. Your Special gift was created with love and honor to the subject presented, created for happiness where a smile might be needed. Totally natural and hand crafted. May its inspiration bring you love and peace. There is a rose within the piece which is my signature on my creations. It is to assure you that it is an original work of the artisan. Items such as leaves, feather or semi-precious sones may be included in the piece, sometimes a bit of sparkle for that hint of magic, all are locally sourced and honored in the gathering.
Care and handling of wool!
Wool is a natural fiber, it contains lanolin. Humidity will affect the wool just like your hair. It is a living thing. All the dyes used are in accord with wool process. Your creation is meant to be hung or posed; light will not hurt the color. Silk has been added for softness and sheen.
